How Do I Sign My Credentials with the Passage of H.B. 216?
Prior to the passage of H.B. 216, APRNs were licensed as registered nurses with a certificate of authority to practice as an APRN in a specific designation. The new APRN license incorporated the certificate of authority (COA) and certificate to prescribe (CTP) and provides prescriptive authority which includes the authority to personally furnish most drugs and therapeutic devices. CE Requirements for 2017 Renewal
Updates to renewal now require APRNs to have a total of 36 hours, including 12 Pharmacology and 1 Category A Law. Learn more about the CE requirements here.
APRN Medicaid Prescribing Exemption: Atypical Antipsychotics and Antidepressants
As you may be aware, psychiatric APRNs are now covered under the Medicaid prescribing exemption, eliminating the requirement to pursue prior authorization, an exemption psychiatrists have for prescribing atypical anti-psychotics and antidepressants. OAAPN worked very closely with the Ohio Council of Behavioral Health and Family Services Providers to pursue this exemption. Read more about the exemption here.
