Congratulations and welcome to these 2024 elected board members who are new to the OAAPN Board! We look forward to working with each of them in the year ahead and know that with their knowledge, experience, and commitment, OAAPN will successfully continue our mission to promote advanced practice nursing through practice, education, advocacy, and leadership.

Education Director — Michael Sabo, DNP, APRN-CNP, AGACNP-BC, CCRN

Mike is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner on the MICU service and Rapid Response Team at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. He attended Case Western Reserve University where he completed his MSN as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in 2019 and his DNP in May 2023 with a focus in practice leadership. He serves as a clinical preceptor for APRN students at CWRU and was recognized as the Outstanding Preceptor of the Year in the MSN program at CWRU in 2020. Currently, Mike is enrolled in his employer’s professional development program in the leadership track.

Communications Director — Kyle Shannon, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Kyle is a Nurse Practitioner in Northeast Ohio who has been practicing in neuromuscular medicine since 2018. He currently holds a leadership role within his department managing the APRN/PA team in general neurology and neuromuscular medicine. A focus on areas of professional development and advocacy holds great importance to Kyle as he works closely with his institute’s APRN council.

Northeast Region Co-Director — Laura Starkey, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC

Laura was born and raised in Cleveland and currently resides in Middleburg Heights. She received her Doctorate of Nursing from Ursuline College in December 2022 and currently works as a full-time medical provider at a local psychiatric facility that serves both inpatient and outpatient clients. Nursing education, mentoring, and peer to peer relationships are just a few of Laura’s professional passions believing that “sharing information with our peers only helps each of us grow not only professionally (in our clinical practice), but also individually.”

Meet the rest of the board.
