OAAPN is committed to changing Ohio law to allow APRNs the ability to provide the best possible health care to Ohioans. Full Practice Authority is defined as the “collection of state practice and licensure laws that allow APRNs to evaluate patients, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, initiate and manage treatments – including prescribe medications – under the exclusive licensure authority of the state board of nursing.”

We have come a long way in the last decade, however Ohio’s APRNs continue to be restricted by outdated state practice regulations. OAAPN is the voice of over 31,000 APRNs in Ohio – we all need to pull together to ensure that APRNs can practice at the highest level of their education, training and certification.

Why Your Membership Matters

OAAPN works to ensure that all Ohioans have access to cost-effective, high-quality healthcare provided by Advanced Practice Nurses.

The Nurse Practitioners, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Certified Nurse Midwives among our members all hold critical roles in addressing the rise in chronic medical conditions, expanding access to healthcare, and meeting population health needs, especially for aging or underserved populations.

Advocacy

Your OAAPN membership dollars directly contribute to the creation and revision of Ohio laws that allow APRNs to provide access to unencumbered care to improve the health of Ohioans through Full Practice Authority. This will decrease the cost of care and administrative red tape and help prevent care delays by allowing APRNs to complete paperwork associated with the in-scope care they provide for their patients every day.

Members and membership dollars support initiatives for lobbying efforts, education, and professional relations towards key legislation on global signature authority and removal of the standard care agreement. Additionally, the OAAPN Government Relations Committee reviews and submits public comments requested by the Ohio Board of Nursing and other state organizations about statutes impacting Ohio Nursing Law and Rule.

OAAPN members have access to information regarding potential changes to our practice and have the ability to weigh in as grassroots advocates. Your membership is your voice – the more members the louder our voice!
