2025 Advocate of the Year: Joy Shoemaker, DNP, APRN-CNP

The OAAPN Advocate of the Year Award is bestowed upon an individual who supports and promotes the role of Advanced Practice Nurses.

We are honored to present this year’s award to Joy Shoemaker, DNP, APRN-CNP. Dr. Shoemaker advances nursing and APRNs through education, mentorship, research, and service. Recently retired from Otterbein University with a distinguished career in APRN education, Joy has taught countless NP students about policy and healthcare procedures, strengthening the APRN role and promoting the profession’s visibility. She remains a passionate advocate for the profession through her ongoing volunteer work at Grace Clinic, where she consistently highlights the vital role of APRNs in patient care.

For her commitment to professional development, research, education, advocacy, and to better access to care for all Ohioans, we present the 2025 Advocate of the Year Award to Joy Shoemaker. Congratulations, Joy!
