National CRNA Week

National CRNA Week celebrates the nearly 57,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and student registered nurse anesthetists who safely and cost-effectively provide more than 49 million anesthetics each year. In Ohio alone, there are 2,200 CRNAs and over 150 facilities in Ohio where CRNAs are the sole provider of the anesthesia care delivered.

Established by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) in 2000, this year marks the 22nd annual recognition of National CRNA Week. Originally termed National Nurse Anesthetist Week, it was renamed National CRNA Week in 2014, to help familiarize patients, healthcare professionals, administrators and policymakers with the CRNA credential and exceptional advanced practice registered nurses who have earned it.

This year’s celebration of CRNA Week takes place January 24-30. This celebration encourages CRNAs to educate the public about the safe and efficient anesthesia care provided by nurse anesthetists. Providing anesthesia care for more than 150 years, CRNAs are essential to our healthcare system, oftentimes being the sole provider in medically underserved areas.

The theme of this year’s CRNA Week is “Experts You Trust. Care You Count on”.  And in the face of the on-going global pandemic, there is specific reflection this year on the heroic work of CRNAs. We are taking time to recognize the power of the CRNA community, and to look forward to a future of providing safe and effective anesthesia care to all patients.

Join OAAPN as we celebrate and recognize our amazing CRNAs and SRNAs.
