The 2019 Statewide Conference was held October, 24-26, at the Hyatt Regency and Convention Center in Downtown Columbus. More than 740 APRNs attended the Statewide Conference, representing all four specialties from across Ohio. The theme of this year’s conference was “Linking arms in education, practice, and policy”.
Attendees of the Conference had the opportunity to attend educational sessions and earn up to 18 Continuing Education hours, listen to national keynote speakers, participate in hands-on workshops, engage in networking opportunities, and have fun with industry colleagues at Casino Night. We also celebrated a few of our members with our OAAPN Leadership Awards and Scholarships.
On Thursday Night, we enjoyed some time for fun with colleagues at the Casino Night, with winners getting to choose from an assortment of fantastic prizes. For those who were not so lucky to win big at Casino Night, there also was a Silent Auction that members were encouraged to participate in.
Friday morning kicked off with our awards and scholarship presentations. This year, we gave away one DNP and four NP Scholarships:
- Jennifer Host, DNP Recipient, Ohio University
- Nicole Cordero, University of Cincinnati
- Colleen Jesberger, Ohio University
- Tina Morris, Bradley University
- Julianne Brubaker, The University of Toledo
Our OAAPN Leadership Awards were presented to the following for demonstrating Excellence in an APRN Role!
- OAAPN Preceptor of the Year, Jeffrey Bevan
- OAAPN Advocate of the Year, Julie Tsirimbidis
- OAAPN Award of Excellence, Teresa DiMeo
And certainly last, but not least, were were proud to present an award to Christine Williams for her many years of leadership and commitment to the Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses and her contribution to the profession of APRNs. Rightfully so, she received a thunderous standing ovation from her colleagues.
Before heading to breakout sessions, OAAPN hosted Peter Bierhaus, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAANP(h), for the Friday morning Keynote Presentation, in which he discussed Nurse Practitioners: A Solution to America’s Primary Care Crisis. Saturday morning offered our attendees the opportunity to receive updates on pharmacology before returning to their practices and patients.
OAAPN is the only state organization representing all of Ohio’s APRNs. We are committed to changing Ohio law to remove APRN practice barriers in our state so we can provide the best possible healthcare to all Ohioans. We hope that you will join us next year for our Statewide Conference 2020! Remember, members of OAAPN receive a discount on their registration, so join today to invest in yourself and your profession.
