CE Requirements

We’ve received many questions about what the CE requirements are with the passage of HB 216. To clear things up, OAAPN had our legal counsel set the record straight:

For the current renewal cycle of Nov. 1, 2017 through Oct. 31, 2019, you must complete 24 hours of continuing education with one hour being Category A to renew your RN license. There is no advanced pharmacology requirement. You must also complete any continuing education needed to maintain your national certification, but you are not otherwise obligated to complete any additional continuing education hours for your 2019 APRN license renewal. The renewal deadline is Oct. 31, 2019.

For the renewal cycle beginning Nov. 1, 2019 through Oct. 31, 2021 you will need 24 hours for your RN license, which includes one Category A law AND you will also need an additional 24 hours for your APRN license, which includes 12 advanced pharmacology hours.

To summarize:

2017-2019 renewal = 24 hours
-24 for RN license (one Category A)
-No advanced pharmacology requirement
-Complete all continuing education necessary for maintaining your national certification

2019-2021 renewal = 48 hours
-24 for RN license (one Category A)
-24 for APRN (which includes 12 hours in advanced pharmacology)
-Complete all continuing education necessary for maintaining your national certification
