We are pleased to announce an important victory in the removal of barriers to practice. OAAPN succeeded in securing an exemption for psychiatric APRNs to prescribe antipsychotic and antidepressant medications without adhering to Medicaid’s prior authorization requirement. OAAPN worked closely with and is grateful for the assistance of the Ohio Council of Behavioral Health and Family Service Providers in securing this exemption. With this change, psychiatric APRNs, like psychiatrists, are able to prescribe antipsychotic and antidepressants without seeking prior authorization.
