Act Now!

Senator Shannon Jones just announced she will sponsor a Senate companion bill to House Bill 216, Version 3.   The legislation draft is ready and Senator Jones is sending her request for co-sponsors to her fellow senators TODAY.

WE HAVE FOUR DAYS TO ACT ON THIS!  The deadline for co-sponsors is this Friday, February 5.

We need YOU to call your state senator and ask him or her to co-sponsor this companion bill.  Here is what you need to do to find your Senator’s phone number:

1)   Go to www.ohiosenate.gov and navigate to the “Member Search” box in the lower left corner and enter your zip code to find your SENATOR (you may need your zip+4).

2)   Click on your Senator to go to his or her home page;

3)   Go to the lower right section of their home page. You will find contact information there; specifically, a phone number.

When you CALL your senator, it is most likely that you will speak to a legislative aide. This is a good thing! Your job at this point is to calmly and respectfully leave your message.  A sample script follows:

“Hello, my name is _____ and I am a constituent of Senator _____ . Thank you for taking my call.

I am calling to request that Senator ______ sign on as a Co-Sponsor of the companion bill of HB 216 that will modernize the Nurse Practice Act for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.   The bill is sponsored by Senator Shannon Jones, and will improve health care access for Ohioans while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.”

Leave your name and contact information.

That’s it!  Let as many of your APRN peers know about this action and ask them to participate.   APRNs must stand together in this HUGE effort to modernize our practice!

Please contact the OAAPN office at info@oaapn.org if you have any questions.
