Sheraton Capitol Square and the Ohio Statehouse

You’ll spend the morning learning about the legislative process and effective strategies to communicate with legislators. After lunch you will go into action with your colleagues to visit legislators to educate them about House Bill 216, OAAPN’s APRN modernization legislation. OAAPN’s Statewide Conference starts the next day – come to Columbus early to be a part of APRN history!
9am- Sheraton Capitol Square

9:30-11:00am – Sheraton Capitol Square
MaryAnne Sapio, AANP’s VP of Federal Government Affairs, will discuss the process of a bill becoming a law, how to influence legislators, tips for visiting legislators (“dos and don’ts”), preparing materials as well as the “ask” during a visit and an update on APRN federal initiatives.
11am-Noon – Sheraton Capitol Square
Mary Jane Maloney, OAAPN’s Director of Government Affairs, will discuss Ohio’s pending legislation affecting APRNs, including HB 216; the Health and Aging committee members and House “influencers;” and the action plan and resources for the afternoon visits to Representatives.
Noon Lunch – Sheraton Capitol Square
1-3pm – Legislator Visits – Ohio Statehouse
In small groups (2 or 3) visit Representatives to discuss legislative initiatives and gather information related to legislators’ knowledge of APRN practice
3:15pm – Reconvene at Sheraton Capitol Square
3:30-4:30 – Sheraton Capitol Square
Discuss post-visit insights learned from visits.
